A Note to My Last Born Son on His 18th Birthday

Happy 18th Birthday Garret Luke. The "baby" boy is all grown up! I've always said you are the glue that binds our blended family. You made dad a dad, Bryce & Drew big brothers, Mimi a grandma, and me a mom of three boys. Your brothers were so excited to meet you and they protected and loved you from day one. You became Baby G to everyone and all of my friends got to love another baby since their kids were a little older. Your birth brought so much joy to many people!

Baby Garret was sweet, and easy going. Thank goodness because we were busy with all of your brother's activities. You were raised on the soccer and football fields. You walked and crawled early so you could keep up with your brothers and all of the neighborhood friends loved coming over to see you.

Pre-school Garret loved going on adventures, dressing up, and playing with cars and army men. You especially loved singing K-love songs- Bless the Lord oh my sword and going to work with me. It was an amazing gift to be able to bring you to work. Wednesdays were our adventure days. We would go to the park, the zoo, get ice-cream, pick strawberries, it was our day to be together and I cherished every one of those days.

As you grew so did your personality, determination and love for the Lord. You were a wise little boy. We had the best car conversations and since we were always in the car with your brothers we had lots of chats. When you were about four you asked me "Mamma, how do you know you love someone?" I told you to follow your heart. You replied, " I'll follow God, your heart can trick you." You were right, you taught me something that day and you are still teaching me new things every day.

You are aa loyal son, brother and friend. You include and welcome everyone. I know the loss you experienced so young had an impact and I also saw it make you a compassionate friend with a heart for others.

As you finish up high school and move forward each day please remember these things.

  • Stand firm in your faith.
  • Continue to choose your friends wisely
  • You are a natural leader, don't be afraid to use this gift
  • Believe in yourself, never doubt your abilities
  • The grace you so freely give to others can be given to yourself too
  • We are always here for you
Happy Birthday my son, celebrating you is easy. Keep moving those mountains!

In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:6

Grace and Peace,
